Even in Monaco, Sparta was unable to cope with the strong opponent and so in the rematch they pulled the short end of the stick. However, they can look forward to the Europa League at least. What did Pavel Vrba say after the match?
Sparta fell 2:0 at Letná Letná, in Monaco they managed to score at least a goal, but lost 3:1.
“The first half was a tactical battle, there were not so many chances. We were waiting for the first goal, unfortunately it fell into our net. Then Monaco had more space, their technical and speed ability showed,” said Pavel Vrba.
“The whole team tried to play well. We had chances and could have scored more goals, but so did Monaco. We faced a strong opponent who plays at the top of the competition and thinks about the top positions. This match showed us certain things,” continued the Sparta coach.
The former Plzen or national team coach thinks that the Europa League would be too little for Monaco. That is why he is curious to see how the princely club will do in the next preliminary round.
However, he welcomes the Europa League for his charges. He thinks it will be a great test to see how the whole team is doing.
” If we want to play in the Champions League, we have to win the title. That is the first step to success.”
Unlike Slavia, Sparta no longer have any qualification matches. The Europa League qualification is guaranteed.
