Viktoria Plzeň had to beat their opponents from Wales by at least 2 goals to take the game into extra time. This was finally done, the West Bohemians secured their progress on penalties. However, the fans were surprised by the behaviour of the players after the match.
Probably nobody from the ranks of Viktoria Pilsen expected that the players would have such a big problem with the TNS team. In the first match they were already 4:0 down, but in the end they at least reduced the score thanks to two goals in the last minutes.
However, in the rematch they scored again right at the start of the match and had to score three goals. This was done and the match went into overtime. No goal was scored, so the third round of the Conference Finals was decided by penalties.
Viktoria was happier in those and after a lot of nerves advanced to the next round. But the TNS players couldn’t bear the elimination and a big melee broke out. Jean-David Beauguel stood out the most, waving his opponents home.
According to many fans, it was extremely unsporting and the Pilsen forward should have forgiven himself for such an act. Twitter users also accused Beauguel of being a frequent campaigner against racism and then having no respect for opponents himself.
but the 29-year-old Frenchman had an explanation for the whole situation.
“Before I say anything about today’s match… Some people say I didn’t play fair to the other players. But first of all. I was not fair-play to only two players because they were both so arrogant when we played in Cardiff… You can’t imagine what they were doing during the game and in the tunnel after the game,” Beauguel wrote on Twitter.
“I wished the rest of the team the best of luck for the rest of the season. I respect you if you respect me. Otherwise, I don’t care,” the Pilsen forward added.
According to the testimony of the Viktoria players, it can be seen that there was something more behind all this and the TNS players were provoking the whole match.
On the one hand, it was really an unsportsmanlike gesture that does not belong on the pitch. On the other hand, if Ondrej Kudel had done something similar in March instead of whispering certain words, everyone would praise him for how well he handled the situation.
Emotions belong to football and if someone is laughing in your face for the whole game and you have the chance to get back at them at the end, sometimes situations like that just happen.
