The winner of the last edition of the Europa League will enter the new league season on Monday. Villarreal will welcome Granada at home, an unpleasant opponent who just last season fell out with Manchester United in the Europa League.

Villarreal’s first sharp game of the season was a penalty shootout loss to Chelsea in the European Super Cup.

For Granada, it will be the first game of the new season, which is always very difficult. It has done well in the run-up, losing only one of its five games and beating, for example, England’s Bournemouth.

Villarreal is relying on goals from Gerrard Moreno, who was top scorer in the Europa League last year and also played at the Euros. There is also interest in the transfer market for central defender Pau Torres and winger Yeremi Pino.

Roberto Soldado, who has joined Levante, will no longer score for Granada, but another goal scorer remains in the team. Jorge Molina scored fifteen goals last season. Darwin Machis scored another twelve goals, scoring eight and assisting on four.

The home team will be missing Chukwueze and Pareja, while Granada will be without Lozano.

The Yellow Submarine are making a good start to the season, having not lost the first six rounds in the last two seasons. And given the quality of the squad and the performance against Chelsea, I expect the home side to win and less than five goals to fall.
