Advancing to Group A in the Nations League and the quarter-finals of the Euros, the Czech national team’s successful season is finally reflected in the FIFA rankings! The Czech Republic is currently the best in the last 5 years, but it could be even better.
The rankings are really packed and Belgium is still in first place, having already crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Euro and not fulfilling its great potential. Brazil are second, and the last world champions France are third.
Fourth and fifth places are occupied by this year’s Euro finalists England and Italy. Ironically, the Italians are only behind the island team they beat in the European Championship final.
And where does the Czech national team stand? After a successful season, we jumped to 31st place in the FIFA rankings, our best ranking in 5 years. It should be noted that there are really minimal point differences between 20th and 40th place.
If our national players build on their performances from the Euros and manage to qualify for the World Cup, we can literally fly up the rankings.
In the updated rankings we have left the Slovaks, Hungarians or Turkey behind. Algeria, Serbia, Tunisia, Poland and Iran are ahead of us by a narrow margin.
There is room for improvement, but the competition is huge worldwide. Placing among the top 20 teams is still out of sight, but it is certainly not an unrealistic idea.
