A few months ago, the rematch of the eight-final match between Slavia and Rangers took place and it still has its repercussions. On Thursday, 5 August, Jan Daněk, a spokesman for the Prague police, announced on the website of the Police of the Czech Republic that they were searching for several people in connection with the publication of a racist banner.
The photo resonated with the media after Rangers’ match with Slavia at Ibrox Stadium. After the match, several “fans” of the Sešiovans were photographed holding a racist banner with the inscription “Kamara – just a ni**er”.
They are now facing suspicion of committing a criminal offence of defamation of a nation, race, ethnic or other group. They potentially face up to three years in prison.
“Crimestoppers have seized CCTV footage that was taken before the banner was photographed and posted and shows the men we need to speak to. If anyone recognizes them, they should call 158,” Jan Daněk said on the police website.
The reason why the reports are coming so long after the incident is due to time-consuming international cooperation.
Glen Kamara got into an altercation with Ondrej Kúdelá during the match, which resulted in a ten-match ban from UEFA competitions. Both Slavia and Ondřej Kúdela are still dealing with the racism and the tarnished reputation.
