The return of the prodigal son. Lukaku returns to Chelsea

Another big transfer is imminent. Chelsea have agreed a deal with Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku for £93m. According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the last details remain to be ironed out. It’s only a matter of time before the Belgian becomes the Blues’ first summer signing.

According to the aforementioned source, Lukaku is expected to sign a 5-year contract with Chelsea with an annual salary in excess of £10 million, which will make him the highest paid player in the team.

The Blues’ interest was huge, but their initial offers were rejected by Inter. Not even £85m+ for Marcos Alonso was enough for the Italian champions. So the clubs eventually agreed on a transfer fee of £93 million and there is almost nothing stopping Lukaku’s comeback to Chelsea.

Lukaku already knows this well in the London club’s camp. He was at the club between 2011-2014. However, he only filled the role of a substitute and so he decided to leave.

His next destination was Everton, where he spent successful years. He scored 87 goals in 166 matches and worked his way up to being one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Then came a move to Manchester United, where he was also very productive. He scored 42 goals in 96 games for the Red Devils. However, after 2 years, there were disagreements in the team and Lukaku had to leave.

Therefore, in 2019, he moved to Inter and this engagement kicked him up again. Under the guidance of coach Antonio Conte, he scored 47 goals in 72 matches and turned into a key player of the team. Last season he won the goalscoring table and helped Inter to win the title after 11 long years.

Chelsea have been silent in this year’s transfer market so far, which is not surprising since they brought in so many new players last summer.

Lukaku is thus expected to be only the first summer signing for the Blues, who will now reportedly also focus on completing the transfer of a new stopper. In fact, the London side have been working on the arrival of Jules Kounde from Sevilla for some time now and it is very likely that the clubs will soon come to an agreement.
