Michal Bielek broke the Belarusian curse. How does the football public react?
FC Viktoria Plzeň is the first Czech team to enter the European preliminary rounds victorious. Plzeň defeated Dinamo Brest 2-1 at home in the second round of the ECL.
FC Viktoria Plzeň is the first Czech team to enter the European preliminary rounds victorious. Plzeň defeated Dinamo Brest 2-1 in the 2nd round of the ECL. However, there is no room for complacency, in the rematch Plzeň players will have to defend their victory.
Plzeň coach Michal Bílek does not have good memories of Brest. Last year he lost to the Belarusian team in a wild shootout 3:6 (in the Champions League preliminary round), then still on the bench of Astana Kazan.
The Doosan Arena healed his painful memories at least a little! The first half went well for the home team, a comfortable 2: 0 result looked great. But the next goal didn’t come, and so came the reduction from the kick of only 19-year-old Belarusian Aleksandr Shestyuk.
Bielek won the first battle, but next week Pilsen will face a tough rematch in the capital of Armenia! With temperatures in Yerevan soaring above 30 degrees some days, the road to the next round could be a hell of a ride.
The reaction of the football public
The Czech football public didn’t spare Plzen, even though the West Germans are the only ones to have contributed to the club’s coefficient with a win so far.
” Since the Champions League games against Real, Barcelona and Manchester City, Plzeň have gone from spasmodically defending a one-goal win against the 8th team in the Belarusian league, who travelled 15 hours to Plzeň in a rusty Karosa. A decent descent…”
“I suggest we stop mocking the Czech Olympic team for a while and start laughing at Viktoria Plzen,” commented Jindřich Šídlo on the result.
