Patrik Schick presented great performances at the European Championship and was undoubtedly one of the best players of the Czech Republic. Thanks to that, he was very vocal about the interest of big clubs.
Patrik Schick presented great performances at the European Championship and was undoubtedly one of the best players of the Czech Republic. Thanks to that, he was very vocal about the interest of big clubs.
Patrik Schick left the Czech Republic in the summer of 2016 when he left Sparta Prague for Sampdoria Genoa. The Italian club paid four million euros for him, which is about 100 million in Czech crowns.
In the team, which is based in the Liguria region in north-west Italy, Schick adapted very quickly. In his debut season, he played 32 league games and scored eleven goals. He also added four assists.
A year later, another move came as the national striker caught the eye of AS Roma scouts. However, the collaboration with Edin Džeko did not work out ideally and Schick scored only five goals in two seasons.
At the start of the 2019/20 season, Schick therefore headed on loan to Leipzig. Under coach Julian Nagelsmann, he found his lost form and even played in the Champions League semi-finals.
In the Bundesliga, the 25-year-old striker netted nine goals, but Leipzig did not exercise their option for a permanent transfer. Schick therefore became a tribal player again for the team from the Italian capital, but that didn’t last long.
In fact, Patrik Schick’s performances earned him a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen, who paid €26.5 million for him. And the acquisition paid off, as the former Sparta Prague player became the team’s second top scorer with nine goals.
Schick also arrived in great form at the EURO, where he scored five goals and thanks to him, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s team reached the quarter-finals. He only lost the top scorer crown because Cristiano Ronaldo added an assist.
Patrik Schick, however, does not have to be sad. He was one of the best players of the whole championship, which undoubtedly attracted the attention of many big clubs.
It is quite likely that Leverkusen will be dealing with pleasant worries in the coming weeks. There is already talk of alleged interest from AC Milan, but Chelsea, for example, are also looking for a striker with a nose for goals.
