FC Viktoria Plzen enters the new 2021/2022 season with a tough match in the second round of the ECL against FC Dinamo Brest. Michal Bílek warns of the strength of the Belarusian team at the pre-match press conference. He shouldn’t have, he clearly succumbed to Brest in his former home!
The former national coach faced Brest in the first preliminary round of the Champions League last year. His Astana lost in Belarus in a crazy shootout 3: 6.
However, the Pilsen helmsman is aware that the opponent now has a slightly different team and, most importantly, he himself is at a completely different club.
“I lost to Astana against Brest 3::6. But the opponent has quite a different team, and I am coaching a different team. It’s not really a good experience and I wish the match would have gone much better, that’s for sure,” said Bílek.
Pilsen will probably start the match in the 4-3-3 formation, which they have been using throughout the summer training camp. During the season, the Pilsen coach will change the formation according to the opponent.
“The opponent scores very few goals in the domestic league. He plays very honestly defensively, he has a lot of draws. His game is based on honest defending, but otherwise he plays very fast up front. Brest has a dangerous striker from Ukraine, he has a very good shot,” the coach of Plzeň pointed out the strengths of the opponent.
The fatigue of the visiting players, who couldn’t fly to the Czech Republic and had to travel by bus, could also be a big advantage for the West Bohemians! The journey to Plzeň took 15 hours and that certainly doesn’t add to your performance.
Defender Matěj Hybš spoke at the press conference and revealed the club’s ambitions. “We go into the season with the idea that we want to start well. The ambitions are always high, we want to win the European Cups, to play the EKL group in the autumn.”
