A missed penalty to end a bad performance. Mbappé failed to live up to his reputation at the Euros
Surprisingly, France is already in the eight finals of the Euro. On penalties, Switzerland managed to eliminate them, with Kylian Mbappé throwing away the decisive penalty, thus completing an unsuccessful championship from an individual point of view.
Surprisingly, France is already in the eight finals of the Euro. On penalties, Switzerland managed to eliminate them, with Kylian Mbappé throwing away the decisive penalty, thus completing an unsuccessful championship from an individual point of view.
At 22, Kylian Mbappé is considered one of the best footballers on the planet. He regularly demonstrates his qualities in a PSG jersey, but his numbers are not bad in the national team either.
However, it must be mentioned that Mbappé is not nearly as goal-productive in the national team as he is on the club scene. In 47 national team matches he scored only 17 goals.
In 2021, he played 9 games for the national team, including the Euros, in which he scored a single goal. That’s simply not optimal. But it should be noted that the play of the whole team is not based on him compared to PSG.
France has many quality players they can rely on. But they didn’t shine at the Euros either, Mbappé couldn’t save the day.
The PSG star earned an average rating of 6.89 at the Euros from the prestigious WhoScored. That’s not exactly glowing, but it’s still good enough for the fifth best mark out of the entire French national team.
And how did Mbappé do statistically? He played 390 minutes, didn’t score a single goal, gave away a crucial penalty, notched an assist and burned three great chances.
He also had 12 shot attempts, 3 of which went between the three posts. Of the nine attempts at the centre, not one ended up on the head of his teammates. However, he averaged 1.8 key passes per game and added an average of over two dribbles.
He didn’t win many standard situations for Mbappé’s team either. As he is often fouled, he averaged only one foul per game during the Euros, which is also not much.
In short, not only Mbappé, but probably the whole of France will want to forget the whole championship as soon as possible.
