Olympique Marseille is up in arms! Who all will strengthen the French team?

After losing French international Florian Thauvin, who was one of the club’s best players from the south of France, Marseille are now ready to hit the ground running next season in style. After Brazilian midfielder Gerson and Barcelona’s unwanted boy Konrad de la Fuente, goalkeeper Pau López and winger Cengiz Ünder are also on their way.
Olympique de Marseille finished in fifth place last season, which means they will participate in next season’s Europa League. It is also because of this goal that the French club brought in a player on whom they could rely for goals. In January, therefore, the Polish canon Arkadiusz Milik arrived, who managed to score 9 goals in 15 matches.
This is a nice record, but the experience of previous years speaks clearly against him. Nobody can take away his football skills, but he is still limited by injuries, especially to his knees. Let’s see what his time in the blue and white jersey will bring.
After him in the scorer’s table we can only find Thauvin, who leaves with a record of 8+10 to Mexican Tigres. At the age of twenty-eight, as a free agent, he has probably closed the door to any major European club for good.
In Mexico, however, he will be reunited with former teammate Gignac, who was also reportedly one of the reasons for the transfer.
The last potent player here is Dimitri Payet. A no stranger to the winger who has shone in a West Ham jersey, but also with the France national team. In this edition, it’s 10+10 for the thirty-four-year-old. Although OM are waiting for their dream goal scorer, they are literally strengthening in other positions.
Last week saw the introduction of central midfielder Gerson, who arrived for €25 million from Brazilian side Flamengo. The 24-year-old Brazilian, who already has experience of European football, has worked for the likes of Roma and Fiorentina.
Next on the list of reinforcements is 19-year-old American international Konrad de la Fuente. A product of the famous La Masia and a great promise for the future, he has already managed to get a peek at the senior national team of the United States. De la Fuente can play both right and left, which is ideal for Marseille.
According to Fabrizio Romano, it’s only a matter of time before the French club’s management announces the arrival of Spanish goalkeeper Pau López. The current AS Roma number one should be a long-term replacement for the ageing Mandanda, who has put down roots at Marseille for 14 long years. López was due to come in by way of a loan deal with an option.
Furthermore, Marseille management are also set to announce Cengiz Ünder, who is also coming on loan with an option. The 23-year-old Turk has not had an ideal away season at Leicester, nor is his wheat blooming in Rome, so he will try his luck in the south of France.
Renowned English journalist David Ornstein also writes about two Arsenal London players who are expected to join the team. They are Matteo Guendouzi, who went on loan to Hertha Berlin after disagreements with coach Mikel Arteta and is now hoping for a permanent transfer back to his native France, and defender William Saliba.
The latter was a guest for six months at OGC Nice, where he put in a terrific performance and so another loan spell would make no sense for the struggling Arsenal. So we shall see what the coming days bring. Both would be dream signings for Olympique, though.
