José Mourinho has signed for AS Rome after being sacked from Tottenham Hotspur, replacing outgoing compatriot Paulo Fonseca, who was not trusted by the management after poor results. However, Mourinho will not have it easy, in the Serie A, which is full of great teams, the Roman team has always been in the top five. But in the season played, they finished only seventh and will only play in the European Conference League.
Mourinho spoke about his future with AS Roma in an interview with GQ Portugal and also outlined what the negotiations between him and the Italian club were like.
In the first part of the interview, it was mentioned that the negotiations between the coach and the club were very quick, as Mourinho himself said:: “They really wanted me, it was very quick, I left Tottenham in the morning and in the afternoon I got a call from Roma.”
Mourinho also added that the club’s new owners recognised they would need help from someone with a wealth of experience. According to the Portuguese coach, they were very honest, got straight to the point and their passion and approach really touched him.
He also acknowledged that he has made some mistakes in the past and picked some bad clubs, but now he really feels a kind of harmony with the club owners.
Finally, Mourinho added in the interview that things have changed around football and these changes will only stop when computers are making decisions instead of coaches.
But at the moment we have to accept what is offered to us and make the best use of modern technology, because to say no to that is to say no to natural evolution.
He also added that he will try to use all his resources and knowledge to succeed as an AS coach. He has been successful with Inter in the past, so let’s see how it will be now.
