Joshua Kimmich had the opening chance in the fourth minute, but Peter Gulácsi made the save. The Hungarians took their first chance in the 11th minute when Adam Szalai headed into the net.
Mats Hummels had the equaliser, but only hit the crossbar. The Germans continued to press, but were zero in the end, as Kai Havertz showed in the 45th minute. It was an unexpected lead for the Hungarians.
Havertz opened the second half with a shot, but Gulácsi made the save. In the 61st minute, Roland Sallai could have added an insurance for Hungary, as he hit the left post from a direct kick. Four minutes later, the Germans got their chance. After a mistake by Gulácsi, Havertz tapped into the empty net.
The Hungarians took the lead back a minute later. Andras Schafer appeared behind the defence and headed Manuel Neuer through. Toni Kroos could have scored the golden goal in the 81st minute, but missed the far post by inches.
Three minutes later, it was 2-2. Leon Goretzka shot over the bar and the Germans were back in front. After that, nothing major happened and Germany moved on after a 2-2 draw.
