Fate? Kadeřábek decided the last bow with the Dutch, will he get a chance again?
One of the biggest disappointments in the history of the Dutch national team was caused by Pavel Kadeřábek six years ago. He buried the Oranjes’ chances of qualifying for the Euros with the opening goal of the match. Is it Kadeřábek’s executioner’s time again?
One of the biggest disappointments in the history of the Dutch national team was caused by Pavel Kadeřábek six years ago. He buried the Oranjes’ chances of qualifying for the Euros with the opening goal of the match. Is it Kadeřábek’s executioner’s time again?
Before the match, the Netherlands knew they would not make it to the tournament. It needed to win and at the same time hoped for Turkey to lose to Iceland. In other circumstances, they would have been out of luck.
The Czech Republic, already assured of promotion, enjoyed the match in the Amsterdam Arena and were already leading 2:0 after 35 minutes. Robin van Persie scored an own goal after half-time and two Dutch goals from the end of the match did nothing to change the result.
What’s so interesting about the match? The fact that Pavel Kadeřábek scored the all-important first goal. He is also in this year’s nomination, he hasn’t played even a minute yet, but he is expected to play against the Netherlands.
Jan Bořil will be out due to a yellow card penalty and Jaroslav Šilhavy does not have an adequate left-footed substitute. Kadeřábek has played a couple of games for Hoffenheim at this position, so he seems to be the number one choice.
The yellow card for Boril seems almost fatal. “Last time Kadeř decided with the Dutch, the choice is clear!” wrote fan Pavel on Instagram. “Left-footed, right-footed, it doesn’t matter, we all know what happened in 2015, ” Jiri recalled his goal.
We’ll see if Kadeřábek will be preferred to Ales Matějů or Michal Sadílek, he probably has the best chance. Our team has beaten the Dutch in four out of the last seven games, with Kadeřábek winning the last two.
