The former Scotland international spoke about Rezko’s iconic simulation. He’s not afraid of retaliation for Kudela’s “racism”

Kenny Miller scored eighteen goals in the blue jersey of Scotland and was also present in the important match against the Czech Republic in the Euro 2012 qualification, when his team was looking for three points, but was betrayed by the referee’s wrong decision, who gave a meaningless penalty.

The Scots go into the tournament with players from England’s first and second leagues, who will be complemented by stars from the domestic Premiership. There is a familiar name in every line, with the Andrew Robertson, Kieran Tierney pairing in defence, Scott McTominay and John McGinn in midfield and Che Adams and Ryan Fraser in attack.

“I’ve believed we’ve had a good squad for a couple of years now. The backbone of the team has been through a few qualifiers together. I think we are very strong in the midfield. Even in defence we are looking stronger and more organised. We have a pretty balanced squad, strong in most positions. Especially in attack I see the biggest progress,” said Kenny Miller.

Miller’s Scotland will enter the tournament with a match against the Czech Republic. Both sides know that if they want to advance to the top 16 teams, they have to win the first game. A draw would not solve much, it would mean that one of the Croatia, England pairing would have to be beaten to progress.

“Both teams will go into the match with very similar expectations, seeing it as an opportunity to get the tournament off to a good start. I expect a good match because of that.”

Miller does not have good memories of the Czech Republic. He was at the now “legendary” simulation of Jan Rezko. Scotland played well in the Euro 2012 qualification match, Miller himself scored once and assisted once, while Jaroslav Plašil and Michal Kadlec scored once for our side, and Michal Kadlec scored a penalty at the end after Rezek fell. These points basically put our national team into the barrier, which it successfully managed.

“It was a simulation, it absolutely should not have been a penalty. It was the dirtiest penalty ever awarded against us. And if I remember correctly, just moments later, in the second half, the referee didn’t whistle the penalty kick for us. Although it was probably more of a penalty than what he awarded you.”

The Czech Republic’s match against Scotland will be played in Glasgow. Miller is a local Rangers fan and, of course, saw both games against Slavia Prague. Thus, he did not miss Ondrej Kudela’s alleged racism towards Glen Kamara. Still, he doesn’t think the incident had any impact on Monday’s game.

“For us Scots, the fact that we are playing at the EURO is a big celebration, so all the negativity that revolved around the double-header will be rather pushed aside. I’m sure some of the media will remind us of that, but it will be important for us to focus on the main goal – to start the EURO with a good result.”
