The Czech Republic has an important match against Croatia on Friday. Modric and co. have to win, while our team would take a draw. What did Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic say before the game?
Croatia entered the tournament with a loss to England, one of the favourites to win the overall title. There were reports in the media about a bad atmosphere in the booth, but the head coach refuted that.
“Of course, every defeat is hard, every defeat is difficult. But the atmosphere in the team is good. In the preparation we lost to Belgium, now to England, but both teams are among the best in the world. We were able to stand up to them, we just lacked something.”
Even the Croatian fans were not satisfied with the performance. Dalic reassures the red and white fans that the second game will be better.
“We will improve. We have a recipe for them, we will try to play more offensively, use the open spaces, play direct, penetrate their defense.”
Dalic also expects Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges to defend honestly with a lot of men. On the other hand, he appreciates their quick transition to attack, which he sees as their main weapon
“They play with up to seven men at the back, but then they can move forward quickly. That’s their advantage, we have to come to terms with that.”
Croatia will not have it easy on Friday also because they have to fly from Croatia to Scotland. Moreover, there will be only a minimum of supporters in the stadium.
“We are in a difficult position, we have to travel far, we have almost no fans here. Half of the teams don’t travel. But in any case we are not making excuses.”
