Vladimir Coufal had the first chance in the third minute, but his attempt was blocked by Domagoj Vida. Tomáš Souček confirmed our active entry with a header, which just missed the goal. In the 17th minute, Patrik Schick found himself in a good position, but he didn’t score between the three posts either.
In the 21st minute, the Croatians could have taken the lead. Tomas Vaclik hit Ante Rebic with the kick and the ball went just wide of the empty net. The match was entertaining, three minutes later Ivan Perisic shot into the middle of Vaclik’s goal.
In the 34th minute, Lovren elbowed Schick in the face and the referee pointed to the spot after watching a replay. The fouled player took the ball himself and opened the scoring with a shot to the left post.
That was the last chance of the first half and the Czech Republic went into the booths with a 1:0 lead.
In the 47th minute the game was level. Ivan Perisic played with Vladimir Coufal and sent the ball to the back post. Four minutes later, Tomas Soucek could have given the Czech Republic the lead back, but his ground shot just missed the left post.
In the 73rd minute, Nikola Vlasic fired dangerously, but missed by inches. The Croatians went for the win, but Bruno Petkovic’s attempt did not find the net. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, which probably puts Jaroslav Šilhavy’s team into the eighth round.
