You may not believe it, but the possibility does exist. The FIFA World Cup in 2030 could theoretically take place in totalitarian North Korea.
You may not believe it, but the possibility does exist. The FIFA World Cup in 2030 could theoretically take place in totalitarian North Korea. Where the biggest football tournament will take place at the beginning of the next decade is still a question mark, but FIFA is already starting to collect organizing bids.
As far as the biggest football tournaments are concerned, which are held every 4 years, the last staging ground for the football championship was Russia in 2018. Football fans can already slowly look forward to the 2022 World Cup hosted in controversial Qatar.
In 2026, for the first time ever, the World Cup will be played in three host countries. The hosts will be the trio of Canada, the United States and Mexico.
But what’s next? What about the first tournament of the new decade, which will take place in about 9 years. FIFA is already starting to gather potential bidders and there are not a few!
In 2030, the final tournament could also be played in totalitarian and communist countries. In fact, the trio of China, North Korea and the only democratic South Korea of the trio have submitted a joint bid.
However, the competition for the Asian trio is quite strong, and since the 2022 championship will be in Asia and the 2026 championship on American soil, one might expect FIFA to head back to Europe or Africa.
Other candidates are the UK + Ireland, Portugal + Spain and Morocco + Algeria. Where would you most like to see the World Cup in 2030?
