At the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, where the Spanish play their matches quite regularly, they will also enter the European Championship. Their opponents will be Sweden, who will ultimately be missing their main star Ibrahimovic.
Spain will miss Sergio Busquets, who has contracted coronavirus. For the same reason, the start of Dejan Kulusevski of Sweden is uncertain.
With Poland and Slovakia still in the group, the 2012 European champions are clearly aiming to advance from first place. Sweden will probably duke it out with Poland for second place in the group, Slovakia’s advancement would be a big surprise.
The Spaniards are having quite a problem scoring goals. With a few exceptions (Germany 6::0, Lithuania 4::0) they rarely score more than one or two goals in their last matches. The attacking formation is not as fearsome as it used to be, even the defence has undergone some changes.
Sweden will rely on their biggest star Alexander Isak. The young Real Sociedad striker has scored 17 goals in La Liga this season and has caught the attention of some big clubs.
So far, this year’s EURO has been marked by a lot of waiting. Four times out of the six matches no goal has been scored in the first half, five times the first half has ended in a draw. A similar scenario can be expected in Spain’s duel with Sweden.
