Last win 11 years ago, a penalty and a B-team, these are the games against Scotland
The Czech Republic will play their first game of the tournament against Scotland, a team they have not had a good experience with. It has beaten them only once in the last 5 matches, but this win is already very dusty. It came in October 2010.
The Czech Republic will play their first game of the tournament against Scotland, a team they have not had a good experience with. It has beaten them only once in the last 5 matches, but this win is already very dusty. It came in October 2010.
Scotland has become perhaps the biggest enemy of Czech football in recent months. After the Ondrej Kudela incident against Rangers, there was a wave of hatred between Scottish and Czech fans, which the Scots can now show in their home game at Hampden Park.
But there are already tarnished relations between the two national teams from the past. Indeed, few in Scotland will forget Jan Rezko’s filmed penalty from 2011.
But Scotland is definitely not the favourite opponent of our national team. In the last five matches we have managed to beat them only once, then came one draw and three defeats. So it’s high time to stop this streak.
8. 10. 2010 | Czech Republic – Scotland 1::0
The last victory of our national team over Scotland. We defeated our opponents in Eden 1: 0 in the EURO qualification, Roman Hubník decided the match in the 70th minute. Roman Bednář, Lukáš Magera and Jan Rajnoch also played in the match.
3.9.2011 | Scotland – Czech Republic 2::2
The match of Jan Rezko’s life, who gave us the qualification to the EURO, but in Scotland they still can’t find a name for him. In the decisive match also at Hampden Park, Kenny Miller opened the scoring before half-time, Jaroslav Plašil equalised in the 78th minute.
Four minutes later Darren Fletcher sent the Scots back into the lead, but in the 90th minute Jan Rezek converted a penalty, which was then converted by Michal Kadlec with a shot into the middle of the goal. Thanks to this draw, we finished two points ahead of the Scots and enjoyed promotion to the European Championship.
24.3.2016 | Czech Republic – Scotland 0::1
In a friendly match before the upcoming European Championship in France, we welcomed our opponents who had unfinished business with us. Pavel Vrba’s team, consisting of the Pilsen axis, lost to their rival 0::1, with Ikechi Anya deciding the match at Letná in the 10th minute.
7.9.2020 | Czech Republic – Scotland 1::2
A rather unusual match. Šilhavy’s charges had to be quarantined after the match with Slovakia, so the full B-team had to be called into action with a substitute implementation team, which had one day to prepare.
In the match, the players mostly started without any national team starts, but they started decently. As early as the 12th minute Pešek sent us into the lead. The Scots turned the score around after goals by Dykes and Christie from a penalty, but David Holoubek’s charges were looking for at least a point.
14.10.2020 | Scotland – Czech Republic 1::0
A rematch in the Nations League, this time with the A-team, albeit with some absences. The Scots started the game well, with Ryan Fraser opening the scoring in the 6th minute. But then they barricaded themselves in the penalty area and waited for the end of the game.
Jaroslav Šilhavy’s side had plenty of chances, but didn’t take them. At least 68% of ball possession, 15 shots and 12 corner kicks did not help to get a point.
The mutual balance of the last five matches is not favourable. But that’s in the past now, nothing lasts forever. It’s the best time to stop this streak and beat the Scots. If we want to think about getting out of the group, it’s a must.
