A year ago a big showdown, this year a duel between the fourth and the twelfth team in the table. Manchester United will challenge Chelsea on Thursday and if the Red Devils win, they will secure the Champions League for next season. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
With Saturday’s win at Bournemouth, Manchester are in a position where they only need one draw from the last two rounds to secure the Champions League. Fifth-placed Liverpool currently have three points less.
Chelsea are devoid of motivation and form and will not play in the cups next year. It has won only one of its last 12 games, which is disgraceful given the investment it has made in its squad. They are 12th in the table and only 12 points above the relegation zone.
Manchester City’s key players
The home side is incredibly driven by Marcus Rashford, the English striker has scored 29 goals and assisted 11 more. In midfield, spider Casemiro reigns supreme, with the Brazilian international also striking six times and assisting seven.
Chelsea’s key figures
Raheem Sterling is in decent form at the end of the season, with the agile winger on nine goals and four assists. Although Thiago Silva will be 39 in September, he is still a stopper who is also in demand in the European market.
Betting tip
Manchester have been pedalling at home, winning five of their last six games at Old Trafford, only drawing unluckily with Sevilla by two goals from behind. At the same time, they have only conceded a total of two goals in their last five games.
Moreover, Chelsea are not a very real threat, as they are desperate in attack. It has scored only 36 goals in the league, which is the lowest in the top 12 of the Premier League. They have scored more than once in only two of their last 11 games.
Given Manchester’s home form, Rashford’s return from injury and Chelsea’s performance, results and mental woes, I think the Red Devils will win at home and secure the Champions League.
