Manchester City beat Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium in a Champions League semi-final rematch. The first half was the turning point, with five scoring chances for the home side. The White Ballet could not react after the change of sides.
Manchester started very actively, in the fourth minute Kyle Walker shot high over the bar. Three minutes later, Rodri tried his luck from an angle, but chose the wrong spin and his right-footed shot missed the back post.
In the 12th minute, Erling Haaland had a goal on his head, but Thibaut Courtois flashed an excellent save. And the Belgian goalkeeper shone ten minutes later, again reflexively keeping out the Norwegian goal scorer.
In the 24th minute, the stadium was already celebrating, with Berdnardo Silva’s left-footed strike. The Citizens continued to keep Real out of the half, while Haaland missed this time with his right foot. On the other side, it was only in the 34th minute that Toni Kroos made his presence felt, hitting the crossbar from distance.
Two minutes later, the Citizens were already happy, with Bernardo’s header into a half-empty net. Real were happy to go into the box with a 0:2 scoreline at the end of the first half. One of the worst halves in their history.
After the change of sides, a completely different Real came on and in the 51st minute David Alaba fired in from a direct kick, but Ederson intervened. Suddenly, the White Ballet were playing as the world knows them, but they weren’t very dangerous.
Haaland could have made the difference in the 73rd minute, but Courtois headed his effort off the crossbar from close range. Two minutes later, the stadium was already roaring when Eder Militao knocked Kevin de Bruyne’s centre into his own net.
Julian Alvarez made the final 4-0 and the team will face Inter Manchester City in the final in Istanbul in June.
