The weekend offered another sensational piece to the dramatic puzzle called the Bundesliga. For the unstable Bayern once again threw sticks under their own feet in their quest for an eleventh league title in a row.
Rather unexpectedly, it failed to fulfil its role as favourite on Saturday and fell to Leipzig on home soil. The team from the eastern part of Germany managed to win 3-1 in Munich. It was not expected.
Leipzig had only managed to beat Bayern once before Saturday. In 2018. On their home ground. Even Dortmund are not winning at the Allianz Arena. But that was all the better news for Borussia ahead of Sunday’s game.
So after the loss, Bayern posted a gif on social media of the popular Hasbull, which is supposed to symbolize Augsburg, Dortmund’s opponent on Sunday, with a clear message. Take Borussia down. But it didn’t work.
The Westphalian side managed to beat Augsburg 3-0 and lead the league by two points. They’re in an excellent position, with everything in their hands. But that could be a problem, because Borussia has failed several times in this exact situation.
In addition, Dortmund face the unpredictable Mainz in the last round, but will play at home. Signal Iduna Park has been an almost impregnable fortress this season. Borussia have lost only one game at home and drawn once. Otherwise, it has only won.
And it’s a win that Edin Terzic’s men need for the title. A draw is only enough if Bayern can’t win in Cologne in the last round. So the Munich giant has the same instructions for Mainz as he gave to Augsburg.
