According to Italian media, Džeko has agreed a contract extension with Inter. However, the Milan club has cut his salary

Edin Džeko has agreed a contract extension with Inter Milan, according to Italian media reports. It is to be a one-year deal, with the Bosnian striker earning less than what his contract has been set at so far. Originally, Džeko thought of a two-year extension, but the Milanese big club did not accept it.

The well-known Italian football website La Gazzetta dello Sport has come out with the information in the last few hours that striker Edin Džeko has agreed on a contract extension with his current employer.

Initially, the Bosnian forward first thought of a two-year extension as he also had interested parties from the MLS. However, Inter’s management rejected this option and only offered Džeko a 12-month extension to his current deal.

The native of Sarajevo eventually accepted the offer because he is simply happy in Milan and wanted to stay at Inter.

Under the new terms, however, he will earn less than he was set to under the previous agreement.

The new deal will see Džeko earn five million euros a year. In his previous contract, he had a salary of six million, plus other bonuses.

The 37-year-old Bosnian transferred to Inter in August 2021 when the Nerazzurri snapped him up from AS Roma. They only sent €2.8 million to the Italian capital at the time.

In that time, Džeko has already managed to show several times that he not only still has something to offer, but also to become an important, sometimes even key figure in Inter’s offensive. He proved this, for example, in the recent Champions League semi-final match against AC Milan, where he scored a goal in the eighth minute to make it 1-0.

So far, Džeko has played 96 games for Inter, scoring 31 goals and adding 15 assists. As for his record with the Nerazzurri – in the 2021/22 season he won the Coppa Italia, twice celebrated winning the Italian Super Cup.
