UFC announcer Buffer on Prochazka: Jiri is a real beast! He did the division a great service and showed how much he respects his colleagues
Jiri Prochazka is still recovering from a nasty shoulder injury, but we should still see him fight for the welterweight title held by Jamahal Hill later this year. What did popular announcer Bruce Buffer have to say about the Czech fighter’s qualities?
Jiri Prochazka is still recovering from a nasty shoulder injury, but we should still see him fight for the welterweight title held by Jamahal Hill later this year. What did popular announcer Bruce Buffer have to say about the Czech fighter’s qualities?
It’s been almost a year since Jiri Prochazka won the UFC title. His last defeat came in December 2015, yet he is not the current holder.
That’s Jamahal Hill, who made the most of his opportunity. That’s because Procházka was injured before his rematch with Glover Teixeira, and the UFC decided they didn’t want to stop the division.
Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz fought for the belt first, and when the fight ended in a draw, an outraged Dana White gave the belt to Teixeira and Hill.
And it is the latter that Prochazka should face once he is fully 100% fit. The date is currently being fine-tuned, so far it looks like September or October.
There are few doubts about Procházka’s qualities, but he was close to defeat against Teixeira and Hill outpointed him, so the Czech samurai will probably be a minor outsider. However, he was praised by UFC announcer Bruce Buffer, whose words already mean something.
“Jiri is really a beast. He’s an amazing fighter. He’s had a very serious injury that he vacated the title in connection with, and I respect him tremendously for that. When you think about it, you can’t help but appreciate that.
He did the division a great service and showed how much he respects his colleagues. I believe he’ll be back in full force. I just met him recently. He looked great and said he was feeling good. It’s extremely difficult to come back after an injury like that.
It needs to heal 100%. I can’t wait to announce him again. But I want him to be really 100%, ” he said in an interview with Mixx Sports Media.
