Things were definitely not going well in Al-Nasser until recently. In April, Cristiano Ronaldo’s club failed to win three times in a row, first drawing and losing in the league, then crashing out of the cup after a goal from Jean-David Beauguelle.
The coach was sacked and the title seemed to be slipping away. But that may not be entirely true, as Al-Nassr have won twice and drawn once, and thanks to the drop in form of first-placed Al-Ittihad, who have taken just four points from three games, the deficit is only three points.
There are three games left in the league and for Al-Nassr to celebrate the title, they must win all of them. In Tuesday’s match, the Riyadh-based outfit travelled to the ground of seventh-placed Al Taee.
It took a long time for a goal to fall until the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors in the 52nd minute. None other than Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to the plate and opened the scoring with a fierce shot to the right post.
The Portuguese star scored his thirteenth goal in fourteen games and had two assists.
In the 80th minute, Anderson Talisca added an insurance goal to make it 2-0. The Brazilian footballer has scored 17 goals in 20 games.
Former Watford and Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has 18 goals, but Al-Ittihad’s Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah leads the scorers with 20 goals.
