Kroos: Did Rooney say City would run us over? They said the same thing last year and we won the Champions League…
Real Madrid and Manchester City will meet again after a year in the Champions League semi-finals. Wayne Rooney has made it clear that he believes the English side is the favourite. Toni Kroos, however, answered him in his own way.

Last year, it looked like the Citizens were really close. They were beating Real Madrid at home, leading 3-1 and 4-2, with chances to score 6 or more goals. But Benzema and co. managed to pull off an acceptable 3:4 result for the home side.
In the rematch they were the clear favourites to advance, even more so when Citizens sent Mahrez into the lead and it seemed to be done, as Real had to score two goals in extra time and the scoreboard was already showing the 90th minute. Rodrygo, however, was up against it.
Once again, Manchester City are the public favourites. This is despite the fact that everyone already knows what Real Madrid can do in the Champions League.
Even the legend of its biggest rival, Wayne Rooney, favours the Citizens. The top scorer in Manchester United’s history has made it clear that he doesn’t trust Real at all.
“Manchester City will not only beat Real Madrid, they will beat them.”
And logically, this has not been met with much sympathy in Madrid, where the Eared Cup has been celebrated five times in the last nine years.
“Rooney said they’re going to run us over? Well, you know… It was the same last year. Nobody expected us to win that semi-final, nobody expected us to win the final and it happened. I remember about two people who said the same thing as Rooney,” Real midfielder Toni Kroos said at a press conference.
