The Champions League semi-final offers two footballing feasts. In the first of the duels, Real Madrid and Manchester City faced each other, while the Milan derby between AC and Inter is yet to take place on Wednesday evening.
Real Madrid and Manchester City awaited a replay of last year’s semi-final, in which the Spanish giant was more successful. Only this year, the Citizens are strengthened by Erling Haaland and he is set to be a major weapon in their quest for the dream trophy.
After all, it was the English team that was the big favourite. Even at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu. The start of the match, in which Pep Guardiola’s charges were more active and more dominant, corresponded to this.
But Manchester City could not take advantage of any of their opportunities and so could only regret it in the 36th minute. That was the first time in the match that Real Madrid shot between the three posts and the goal was scored by Vinicius Junior.
However, the Brazilian ball wizard’s goal was not the only one in the match. It took a while, but eventually the Citizens, specifically Kevin De Bruyne, were able to get through.
The Belgian midfielder thus took advantage of Eduardo Camavinga’s misplaced cross and, in turn, the great reading of the game shown by Rodri, who made the whole action happen.
Ilkay Gündogan presented the ball to De Bruyne in front of the sixteen and the Belgian’s shot was short of his national teammate Thibaut Courtois. The Manchester City star showed once again that he can not only set up goals, but also score them.
