Blackburn and Coventry played in the second highest English league. Both are fighting for promotion to the top flight and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. However, goalkeeper Ben Wilson equalised in the match itself, but should the goal have stood?
The English Championship, which is the second best performing English league, also offers very interesting matches. Burnley are assured of promotion and Sheffield United’s return is also likely.
However, a relatively large number of clubs can make it to the barrage. There are at least seven teams fighting for the last two spots and they are only three points apart!
So every one of them is needed. Blackburn, who almost had three points in their pocket but lost two of them at home in the 95th minute when Coventry goalkeeper Ben Wilson equalised, will confirm this.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper went for the final standard and he may not even know how he got the ball into the net. There is speculation as to whether he accidentally played the ball with his hand.
However, slow-motion footage has also emerged which suggests that the experienced goalkeeper played the ball with his chest, and so his goal was correctly awarded.
“We’re disappointed with the draw, especially the way we played it when we probably conceded from the last kick, a situation we should have handled better.
I don’t want to talk about the goal they scored, ” said an exasperated Blackburn coach Jon Dahl Tomasson at a press conference.
Blackburn are currently sixth with 64 points, but have one game less than many of their rivals. Coventry are a point behind, as are West Brom, Sunderland and Norwich on 62 points.
