Napoli fans sue referee for Champions League performance and want €150 million in compensation!

Napoli failed to beat AC Milan in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday, losing by one goal at the San Siro. In addition, they have to deal with several inconveniences. At least two key players will be missing in the rematch. It was not only the fans who complained about the referee after the game. A class action lawsuit is now on the table.

Romanian referee István Kovács had a big row with the Napoli fans on Wednesday and will undoubtedly not go under Vesuvius voluntarily. In the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, he seemed to have thrown away his objectivity.

AC Milan players saw three cards at the San Siro, but there could have been many more. For example, Rafael Leao kicked a corner flag in anger and avoided a penalty. Rade Krunic finished without a card, Alexis Saelemaekers simulated at least twice without a penalty and the list could go on.

Napoli, on the other hand, saw six yellow cards and one red. Captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo got a yellow card basically just for coming up to the referee without having time to switch anything. He didn’t even come out in any great emotion.

Ande-Frank Anguissa got a red card for a change after two fouls in a row, the first of which could definitely have gone without a yellow card.

Key stopper Kim Min-Jae was given a stern card for lashing out after a foul was whistled, albeit away from the referee and the anger wasn’t even directed at him. He is now not allowed to start the rematch. Meanwhile, there were several similar gestures from AC Milan players on the pitch. Cards fall for this all the time, we see several red cards in every game.

Napoli fans file a class action lawsuit

Napoli fans are going to react to the performance of referee István Kovács in their own way. They are filing a class action lawsuit and demanding extremely high compensation from Aleksandar Čeferin and Marchetti.

The class action is being brought by the Noi Consumatori and Napoli Club Maradona. Angelo Pisani and his colleagues helped the fans to file the lawsuit.

The referee is said to have violated the principles of sports fairness and clearly aided the AC Milan players.

“The referee risked destroying the dreams of an entire city and harming millions of fans who support the sport and naively spend thousands of euros to be close to their beloved team. UEFA cannot treat Naples in such a way,” the lawsuit reads.

And how high should the compensation actually be? A whopping 150 million euros, or 3 almost 3.5 billion crowns.
