When Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Saudi Arabia, his Al-Nassr was at the top of the league there. But now it’s different and he and his teammates lost another important point on Sunday night. The Portuguese icon couldn’t take the draw.
Al-Nassr is now in an awkward situation. On Sunday night, as the visiting team, it played on the ground of Al Feiha as a clear favourite. It was, after all, a battle between second and eleventh.
But the expected and important three points were not obtained. Cristiano Ronaldo and co. only scored a goalless draw and that means only one thing. A three-point loss to first-placed Al-Ittihad.
Ronaldo’s team was clearly the better team in the match, but even the Portuguese star couldn’t do anything about the result. The Al-Nassr captain was the third lowest rated player on the pitch according to Sofascore with a 6.6 rating.
The holder of five Ballon d’Ors took the loss of points hard. He was so downright furious after the match and gave the media and fans ammunition to criticize him. He criticized the opponents, saying they didn’t want to play, and then quickly headed off the field.
According to foreign media, Ronaldo was referring in particular to the fact that the opposition players were playing downright concrete and not trying to play openly at all.
And while Ronaldo criticized the opponents and walked quickly off the field, his coach Rudi Garcia went to talk to the referees after the game and was clearly not satisfied with their performance.
Ronaldo has scored eleven goals for Al-Nassr this season, adding two assists. He has played twelve competitive matches for the Saudi side so far.
