Although the Champions League is not on the agenda this week, football fans will not be bored. In England, there are rounds that have been postponed for various reasons, for example Bournemouth and Brighton will play on Tuesday.
Bournemouth are in decent form after their winter strengthening. First they nearly scored at Arsenal, then they beat Liverpool at home and overall they have won two of the last three rounds. From 16th place, they have a one-point lead on the relegation zone.
Brighton continue their drive for a historic season. It has taken eight points from the past four rounds, including a 4-0 demolition of West Ham, and continues to hold on to sixth place. They are one point clear of eighth-placed Liverpool with a game to spare.
Bournemouth’s key figures
The home side found an unexpected goalscorer in Philip Billing, with the Danish international scoring six times and assisting once. Winter signing Dango Ouattara has been excellent, with the speedy African winger having assisted three goals already.
Brighton’s key figures
Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma is playing very well, the successor to Leandro Trossard has scored ten times and assisted six. Argentine world champion and central midfielder Alexis Mac Allister boasts a 10+2 record.
Bournemouth, despite their improved results, still cannot rely 100% on their defence, with 55 goals conceded it is the worst in the league. In three of their last five games they have scored three or more goals.
This plays into the hands of Brighton, who are an offensive bogeyman. With 49 shots, it has the best offensive record outside of the top 5 teams in the table, netting a whopping 15 goals in its last five games.
Considering Brighton’s excellent offense, Brighton’s struggling defense and the home team’s narrow squad, I think the English week will suit the visitors who will win more.
