Graham Potter’s career in numbers. These stats cost the English coach a place on the Chelsea bench

On Sunday night, Chelsea announced that Graham Potter is quitting as head coach of the club. Potter’s stats are testament to the fact that it was certainly not a successful engagement.

Graham Potter lasted 206 days on the bench of the London club after replacing Thomas Tuchel as head coach.

The hiring of the English coach was supposed to be one of the first steps of the new Chelsea management to renew the club and set new long-standing visions, of which Potter was to be a part.

The club promised him plenty of time and, above all, huge financial opportunities. In light of the club’s investment and lacklustre results, Chelsea’s management decided to remove Potter on Sunday night.

Engagement in numbers

Not surprisingly, the new management wanted to give the coach plenty of time, as his arrival alone cost a lot of money. His “transfer” cost £21 million.

During his tenure, the London team scored 1.27 points per game. That’s the lowest of any coach who has coached at least 20 games for the club.

Chelsea are now eleventh in the table, twelve points behind the fourth position. The last time it happened in the 1995-96 season that they were not in the top half of the table after twenty-eight rounds.

Since the 1994-95 season, they have the lowest number of points. Back then, they had two fewer.

From the beginning of November to the end of February, the London side scored only six goals in fifteen games.

In Saturday’s game against Aston Villa, the home side managed to produce 27 shots without a single successful hit. That says a lot about their shooting woes. This is their highest number of shots without scoring a goal since 2014.

They have scored a total of 29 goals in the Premier League this season, their worst record at this stage of the competition since 1978-79.

Graham Potter certainly hasn’t had an easy job. He had to find harmony and try to play 13 new faces out of the 32 players who have hit at least one game this season.
