VIDEO: The best direct hitter of 2023? Szoboszlai hits an exhibition shot in the gallows
It’s only the end of March, but we already have a hot candidate for the best direct kick of 2023. Dominik Szoboszlai, in Hungary’s jersey, sent this unstoppable projectile into Bulgaria’s net.

While most of the qualifying groups for the 2024 European Championship have a clear favourite and clear outsiders, the same cannot be said for Group G.
Serbia and Hungary should secure qualification, but Bulgaria and Montenegro are not complete outcasts. Only Lithuania is not counted on.
So every point is extremely valuable and important. With five teams in the group, Hungary did not play in the first round.
In the first match, the Hungarians hosted Bulgaria and didn’t want to leave anything to chance. Already in the 7th minute Balint Vecsei scored the first goal of the match.
In the 26th minute, Hungary had an extra direct kick a few metres outside the penalty area, but from quite close range, which is what the goalkeepers prefer.
However, Dominik Szoboszlai got to the ball and swept the crossbar in an impressive manner. Daniel Naumov had no chance at all in the Bulgarian goal.
Still only 22 years old, the midfielder is playing his second season in Leipzig and is doing quite well. He has collected 5 goals and 13 assists this season.
