Arsenal are having a very successful season in the English Premier League and are facing a title fight with Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s charges have an eight-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s squad so far.
Arsenal’s management hopes that winning the title and participating in the Champions League can help attract interesting players to the club. The Gunners will also look to sell players to reduce their squad.
Up to seven players are expected to leave permanently. Specifically, players like Nicolas Pepe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sambi Lokonga, Alex Rúnarsson, Nuno Tavares, Pablo Marí and Cédric Soares.
Especially the departure of Pepé would help Arsenal. The Ivory Coast international moved to north London from French side Lille, who cashed in around €72 million for him.
This season, Pepé failed to make his way into the Gunners’ packed squad and headed to French side Nice on a one-year loan. The 27-year-old striker has so far appeared in 25 competitive matches, scoring eight goals.
Pepé’s return to Arsenal is not envisaged as the club wants to get rid of his high salary, which is £140,000 a week. The club’s management is counting on some players leaving London for free, but in turn will free up their places for new signings.
There has been speculation for some time about Arsenal’s interest in the Neapolitan duo of Victor Osimhen and Khvich Kvaratskhelia, who are dragging Naples to the championship title. If Arsenal want to bring in the aforementioned duo, they will have to come up with a hefty package. The Naples management is envisioning a sum in the region of £200 million.
