Good relations with canaries, titles or language. Reasons why Brazil is waiting for Ancelotti at any cost
Coach Tite quit the Brazilian national team in December after being eliminated in the quarterfinals at the World Cup in Qatar, but no replacement has arrived after three months. Indeed, Brazil is waiting for Carlo Ancelotti, as the association’s president admitted. Why are the Canaries so attached to the Italian coach?
Coach Tite quit the Brazilian national team in December after being eliminated in the quarterfinals at the World Cup in Qatar, but no replacement has arrived after three months. Indeed, Brazil is waiting for Carlo Ancelotti, as the association’s president admitted. Why are the Canaries so attached to the Italian coach?
A great relationship with the Brazilians
Ancelotti’s affection for Brazilian players is nothing new. We can pull out two great examples from the past. Ronaldo Nazário and Kaká. He met both icons in Milan and they had a great time together and still maintain a great relationship to this day. These are the ones to believe that Ancelotti is the right man to lead Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
In total, Ancelotti has managed 39 Brazilians in his career, including such names as Ronaldo, Kaká, Dida, Cafu, Rivaldo, Emerson, Pato, David Luiz, Belletti, Thiago Silva, Marcelo, Casemiro, Vinicius Rodrygo, Douglas Costa and Richarlison.
Even currently at Real Madrid, he has a great relationship with the Brazilians. Vinicius, Militao and Rodrygo are the leaders of the team, last season it was also Casemiro and Marcelo. The latter has been a non-playing captain but has shown no dissatisfaction and has been a great support for the players, this is also a credit to the coach who has a non-playing captain on his side.
During last year’s celebrations, for example, a photo went around the world of Ancelotti lighting a victory cigar with the young Brazilians or dancing with them.
Experience
The Brazilian national team does not want another failure. It knows full well it has a great generation on its hands and the goal of adding a fifth star is huge. And to do that, the national team needs an experienced coach who knows how to win titles. That’s why they are so fixated on Ancelotti, the most successful coach in Champions League history.
Brazil is currently being led by a replacement coach, but Ancelotti is pending. The association’s president Ednaldo Rodrigues has publicly admitted as much.
“We will believe in God, wait for the right moment and see if we can bring it to reality,” he said when asked if Ancelotti was being waited for. “But we behave ethically and respect the running contracts,” he pitched the Italian’s contract at Real Madrid until 2024.
Ancelotti’s goal is to lead Real Madrid for another year, after which he would not defend the Brazil national team. However, if Madrid decided to recall Ancelotti now in the summer, the Canaries would welcome him with open arms.
“Ancelotti is unanimously respected among all the players. Not just Ronaldo Nazário or Vinicius Junior, but all those who have played for him,” Rodrigues added.
Language
Another condition Brazil have is that the new coach must know the language and be close to the culture. In Brazil, football is a religion and the pressure on the Seleçao coach is enormous. In addition, Brazilians don’t like to rely on foreign coaches, they are proud of their origins, so in history only two coaches from other countries have led the national team – Joreca (Portugal) and Filpo Núñez (Argentina).
It is also very important for the association that the coach speaks, or at least understands, Portuguese, or at least Spanish. They want to avoid a translator at all costs so that communication in the booth and in front of the media is as fluent as possible.
Ancelotti has done all this. He speaks Spanish fluently, so learning Portuguese is only a matter of moments. Moreover, he transmits calmness to the players, something they need in Brazil. Vinícius, Rodrygo and Militao have unlocked their best version of themselves under him at Real Madrid, and it is these three who are set to be the leaders of the next generation.
