It was August 2021 when Jakub Brabec left Viktoria and headed to Greece. He became a player of Aris Thessaloniki and became a mainstay in the club. On the weekend he made his first appearance with the captain’s armband and on Sunday he signed a new contract.
Aris Thessaloniki is one of the leading teams in the top Greek competition and Jakub Brabec can fight for European Cups. He became a key player right after joining the club and when he is not injured, he is not missing from the starting line-up.
He is respected in the club. The fans also like him. Moreover, the Czech stopper has had a very good weekend. On Saturday he was captain for the first time, his team won 3-1 and on Sunday he signed a new contract.
“We wanted it, he wanted it. It wasn’t hard to come to an agreement. So one of the best defenders in the Greek league remains on our roster,” the club announced the happy news.
The 30-year-old defender did not hide his excitement either. He claims that he has grown fond of Aris and sees it as his home. He said he was very keen to sign a new contract and wants to stay at the club for a few more years.
“I like the team, I like Thessaloniki. My family is also happy here, which also played a big role in my decision. I will do my best to make sure we are successful and win trophies,” Brabec said.
The former Plzeň and Sparta player also thanked the fans for their constant support since his arrival.
Aris, like last season, made it through to the title group, only to be without a chance of winning the league trophy again. Even the chances of qualifying for Europe are not realistic compared to last year, with city rival PAOK holding the last cup spot by 14 points.
Panathinaikos currently leads the Greek league with 69 points, with AEK two points behind and Olympiakos, last year’s champion, five points behind. Aris has 40 points.
