Liverpool vs. Wolves: Preview and betting tips

Both teams have already been knocked out of the FA Cup, so they may face each other in the eighth round of the Premier League this week. Liverpool will welcome Wolves to their home ground, and if they want to think about the Champions League, they have to win.

Liverpool have won two of the last three league rounds, yet are far from being in an ideal frame of mind. They were beaten by Real Madrid a week ago and are seventh in the league table, nine points outside the top four guaranteeing the Champions League.

Wolves, on the other hand, are on the rise under Julen Lopetegui, having taken seven points from the last four rounds and are no longer in the bottom three. They are fifteenth in the table, but in a balanced bottom half, that means a mere three-point lead for relegation.

Liverpool’s key figures

One of Mohamed Salah’s worst seasons in red is still numerically incredible, a record of 19+9 is great. Stefan Bajcetic looks likeable in midfield, the hard-working 18-year-old midfielder has struck once and assisted once.

Wolves key figures

The visitors have built on the performances of captain Ruben Neves, with the Portuguese international midfielder having already netted five goals. The defensive line is also working well after the winter renewal, which has been excellently reinforced by the arrival of the experienced Craig Dawson.

What to expect and what to bet on?

Anfield is certainly not an impregnable fortress this year, as it has been in recent years, yet it has lost only to Real Madrid in its last eight games here. Only twice more have they scored less than two goals.

Moreover, Wolves have the second worst league offensive record after Everton, as they have scored only 18 times (0.77 shots per round). They have struck more than once in only one of their last four games on the opponents’ grounds.

Taking into account the Anfield factor, Wolves’ weak offensive but very decent defensive performance, as well as Salah’s individual quality, I think the favourite will not falter on home soil and get closer to the Top 4.
