A poor Friday’s football schedule will feature a La Liga match between Real Sociedad and Cadiz. While the hosts are aiming for the Champions League, the visitors are mainly looking to save themselves. What to expect from the match?
Sociedad have won only one of the last five league rounds, yet they are in third place thanks to a good first part of the season. However, the gap to fifth-placed Betis Sevilla has shrunk significantly, currently standing at three points.
Cádiz has broken out of the relegation zone with two wins from the last three rounds, yet is fully immersed in the fight for salvation. From 16th place, it has only a two-point cushion on relegated Valencia to 19th-placed Getafe’s one point more.
Sociedad’s key figures
Offensive midfielder Brais Méndez is having an excellent season, the summer signing from Celta Vigo has struck ten times and assisted six times. Norwegian sniper on loan from Leipzig Alexander Sörloth has scored 13 goals and assisted six times.
Key figures of Cadiz
Álex Fernandez is the home side’s top scorer after the departure of Lucas Perez, but has scored only three goals. Thirty-seven-year-old Álvaro Negredo, with Premier League experience, scored twice and assisted twice.
Sociedad relies on a solid defence, with 23 goals conceded, and has the fourth best in the league after giants Real Madrid, Atletico and Barcelona. It has scored more than once in only one of its last 13 games.
Cadiz, on the other hand, is defensively very poor, with 38 goals conceded, third worst in the competition after Almeria and Elche. It has scored more than one goal in four of its last six games.
Considering the diametrically opposed form of the defences of the two teams, the goalscoring factor of Sörloth and the home support of San Sebastian, I think the favourite will manage the match and win.
