Manchester United welcomed Barcelona in the rematch of the 1/16 final of the Europa League, the opening match ended in a 2-2 draw. However, he also had one unflattering moment.
Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes was the star of the return leg. He was at virtually everything that mattered.
In the third minute, the Red Devils had a great scoring chance when Fernandes missed a close-range effort from Marc-André ter Stegen. The Manchester captain then conceded a penalty after a quarter of an hour of play when referee Turpin adjudged his tackle on Balde to be a penalty.
Polish cannonballer Robert Lewandowski dealt with the opportunity presented, although David de Gea did get a hand to his shot towards the right post. Barcelona thus had the advantage.
Fernandes was again at the centre of the action in the second half when his pass was worked by Fred and even with a bit of shin luck, he cleared the ball behind ter-Stegen to equalise.
There was a very unsporting moment in the 59th minute. Frenkie De Jong was fouled from behind by Wan-Bissako, the ball reached Fernandes who headed it straight at the Dutch midfielder.
Logically, a big scuffle broke out on the pitch as Barcelona players went to defend their teammate. Fernandes received a yellow card for his unsporting act.
In the end, however, he did not have to regret the situation at all, because Antony increased the score to 2: 1 for Manchester United and the English team advanced to the eighth round of the Europa League.
