The original plan failed? AC wants a new stadium of its own and is ready to build without Inter! What does Gerry Cardinale say?

A new stadium for AC and Inter Milan – this is the big topic of the last few days. Not long ago we reported that the two clubs were planning a joint project that would also avoid the demolition of San Siro. But as the latest information speaks, it seems that the Rossoneri will build a new stadium without their eternal rival.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan have decided to build a new stadium without Inter and have picked out three ideal sites.

So as it seems, despite the original project we wrote about earlier, the Rossoneri are ready to abandon their rival and build their own stand.

In fact, just a few days ago, Italian media reported that AC and Inter, in agreement with the Milan City Council, were working on a parallel project, according to which a new stadium would be built on the site of the former Snai horse races.

So if the aforementioned project actually works out, one could say that it would be a slam dunk for both AC and Inter. Why?

Firstly, the new stadium would be built only about 1.5 kilometres from the existing shrine. And secondly, the new stadium would be built on private land. It would therefore avoid the various debates about building on public land.

Yes, the question, of course, is what the future of San Siro itself would then be. However, this project should have saved it from demolition. Apparently, however, this is all in the past.

AC’s current plans

The defending Serie A champions have newly earmarked three sites where the new stadium could stand. The first option is the Sesto San Giovanni area on the outskirts of Milan. The city council has reportedly even already given the green light to any project that would include a new Milan stadium.

The second possibility is San Donato, also just outside Milan. The third is a 75-hectare site called ‘La Maura’ near San Siro, owned by the FCMA group.

Gerry Cardinale will carry out the necessary assessment and make a decision soon. According to the Gazzetta, he is aware that the Rossoneri need a new stadium and need to play there themselves.

This is especially after the club made more than nine million euros per day for the home Champions League match with Tottenham.
