Jake Paul lost his first fight to professional boxer Tommy Fury. Has he earned the respect he deserves? The British boxer remains undefeated.

Jake Paul fell for the first time in his professional boxing career. In his first clash with a real boxer, he was no match for the quality of his opponent and flies home from Saudi Arabia with the first red box marking a loss.

There was a lot at stake in the fight. On the one hand, the career of a professional athlete from a renowned family of boxers was at stake, on the other, the dream of gaining respect across the boxing world.

The importance of the fight was confirmed by the star-studded line-up in the Dyriyah Arena auditorium. Legendary slugger Mike Tyson got a great front row view, for example, and predictions that the crowd would include the football turf legend who came to watch the fight with his son Cristian Jr. came true.

While Tommy Fury entered the ring alongside his older brother Tyson and father John, Jake Paul was accompanied by his brother Logan. There was considerable tension between the two men even before the opening bell struck, which carried over into the stands, which favoured the British boxer more.

From the very beginning, the fans were treated to a lot of bonding from the American youtuber. It was Fury who fought from a greater distance and was tagging his opponent from the retreat. Thus, the first round was clearly behind him.

But in the second and especially the third round, Paul started to assert himself more and scored some decent body shots. But while the American was landing more one-two punches, Fury was pushing forward with longer combinations and tied the fight in the fourth round.

The ring referee admonished both fighters heavily for dirty punches from the first minutes of the fight, culminating in the fifth round where he took a point for a punch to the back of Paul’s head. The two fighters switched roles in the next round, where a point was again taken away from Fury for an illegal hold.

At the break before the seventh round we could see a small laceration above Fury’s left eye, however, replays showed it was a headbutt. The penultimate round saw Fury show more desire to win and scored quite well with some hard combinations.

Then at the start of the last round Paul shocked his opponent with a mutual punch, sending him into the count. However, even here the replays showed the Brit slipping rather than the knockdown caused by Paul’s knockdown. Fury did look more active the rest of the round and the fight went to the judges on points.

They awarded the split decision win (76-73, 76-73 and 74-75) to Fury, giving Jake Paul the first loss of his professional career. Fury’s emotions flared when the result was announced and the young boxer even burst into tears. The post-fight rivalry went by the wayside and both men exchanged words of respect.

Fury’s heart dropped, Paul made excuses for being ill in training

“I earned my own legacy tonight,” the 23-year-old Fury said in a post-fight interview in the ring. He paid tribute to his opponent, whom he described as a true warrior, and admitted that a huge amount of pressure had been lifted from him.

His opponent Paul then noted that it was definitely not his best performance and revealed that he had fallen ill twice during his preparation. However, he accepted the loss, although he expressed concern about the judges’ scoring.

Both men have not ruled out a possible rematch, and it has been leaked to the media that they had already contracted it before the fight. So will we see a continuation of this story?
