Formula 1 has agreed a 15-year partnership with English football club Tottenham Hotspur. This collaboration is designed to identify and support the next generation of motorsport talent. What exactly do the two parties hope to gain from this partnership?
Prospective cooperation for the future – this is how the newly concluded partnership of the queen of motorsport with Tottenham in England could be interpreted.
The collaboration will see the world’s first electric karting facility and the longest indoor track in London built under the iconic South Stand at Spurs Stadium.
Tottenham is thus the latest example of how to attract a wide range of sports to a multi-purpose stadium. The technologically advanced facility will be the only one of its kind. It is due to open later this year. In addition, it will have separate tracks for adults and juniors, both accredited by the National Karting Association.
And what is the goal of all this? Formula 1 and Tottenham Hotspur will jointly create a new driver academy programme, which aims to widen the pool of motorsport talent and is intended to help find the next generation of drivers for F1.
Formula 1 and the club will also run various educational activities for schools to get as many young people involved in motorsport as possible. As well as racing itself, both parties also want to expose applicants to opportunities in areas such as engineering and software development work.
As part of the partnership, F1 will also work with Tottenham on sustainability and environmental initiatives.
Indeed, as Formula 1′s official website explains, the Queen of Motorsport’s plan to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030 is closely linked to Tottenham’s goal. The latter, in turn, aims to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve zero emissions by 2040.
Statements by Domenicali and Levy
“Our two brands share a common vision to create career opportunities that promote diversity and inclusion, for example through the recently announced F1 Academy, and to support environmental sustainability. Our innovative partnership will bring all this to life,” said F1 President Stefano Domenicali in an official statement.
“Since the construction of this stadium, it has always been our ambition to see how far we can push the boundaries in delivering a world-class experience. We are extremely excited about what this long-term partnership with F1 will bring to our global, national and local communities,” added Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy.
