A court in Barcelona has today refused bail for the release of Dani Alves from custody and the Brazilian international will remain behind bars until his trial.
A court in Barcelona has today refused bail for the release of Dani Alves from custody and the Brazilian international will remain behind bars until his trial.
Today was the day that the world-famous Brazilian back Dani Alves looked forward to. In the morning, a court in Barcelona was in session to decide whether the former Barcelona star will leave his stay behind bars.
He arrived there last month after being arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in the sunny Catalan capital. Police have placed him in a remand prison while a thorough investigation into the case takes place.
The thirty-nine-year-old football star was confident of getting out of jail today and further investigations will take place at large. However, he was sorely mistaken.
Alves did not attend today’s hearing, which was attended by three judges, and was represented in court by his lawyer.
He asked the court for his client to be released on bail pending the ongoing criminal proceedings.
But the prosecutor countered that the legendary back should remain behind bars. The court eventually agreed with him and gave as a reason that, given the star footballer’s fortune, his remaining in Spain would be at risk.
No trial date has been set yet, so no one knows how long Alves will be behind bars. Of course, the footballer denies all the allegations from the turn of the year when the incident was supposed to have taken place. But he will have to wait until the court makes a final decision.
