UFC 284 featured a single heavyweight bout, it took place on the main card and offered a short, yet great spectacle. New Zealander Justin Tafa scored a brutal knockout.
Perth, Australia hosted the numbered UFC 284 tournament and at least the main card offered and promised an interesting spectacle. After the first fight, which was a great MMA commercial, fans were also treated to a battle between two heavyweights.
Specifically, Justin Tafa and Parker Porter, a New Zealander and an American, faced each other. The former was the slight favourite, but Porter cannot be underestimated. He is an experienced puncher who also has a much better score.
It is worth mentioning that Porter fought the legendary Jon Jones in 2008, but this time not under the UFC banner. He’s now 37 years old and still very much in the game.
Porter has won three of his last four fights in the UFC, while Tafa has lost three of his last five fights. So the New Zealander had a lot to make up for, but Porter didn’t want to lose either.
However, their entire fight was decided in the first minute. And what a way! The match was finished in 1:06, Tafa needed only 8 punches to win.
Two in particular, however, were absolutely fatal for his opponent. Tafa hit Porter’s chin cleanly twice during a lunge and the American went down. And there was no need to add any more punches.
This may not be the KO of the year, or a KO that could be a contender for the award, but it earned Tafa a lot of respect. He showed that he has a truly brutal grenade in his hand.
