5 interesting facts that confirm that cars and football belong together
If you follow football, you probably haven’t missed the fact that cars – especially luxury ones – are nowadays an inseparable part of it. In today’s article, we’ll present a few interesting facts that confirm this fact.
Most footballers get a car because they want one. But some have to!
A luxury car is a dream come true for most footballers. And footballers, of course, are in turn the desired customers of all dealers. They are a wealthy clientele who do not hesitate to spend a large sum of money on a car, and thanks to their media influence – for example via social networks – they can attract other buyers for whom the footballer is an idol. It is not uncommon for people to choose the cars driven by their favourite footballers.
And car companies take advantage of this fact to promote themselves. In the biggest clubs, such as Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, players receive a new car free of charge from their sponsor. So everyone can (or must, depending on your point of view) choose their own model.
Practice has shown that this is a double-edged sword. Some footballers do not use the car at all, instead driving their own car of a different brand. In response, clubs have ordered players to use donated cars at least for travel to training.
Going south via Munich? You’ll see the unmissable Bayern stadium
Speaking of Bayern Munich, its iconic arena can be seen by many Czechs on their way to the Alps or the seaside. It’s located right at a motorway junction on the route that most of us use on our way through Rozvadov towards Innsbruck.
Tip: Don’t forget to take out breakdown insurance for your car. If your car is damaged, an accident insurance policy can save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in repair costs.
Football was also played on Top Gear. How else but with cars
Football has made its way onto the famous car show Top Gear. Specifically, in the 5th episode of the 8th series, the popular presenters divided into teams in which they “dug in” with a ball. But as was their way, they took football in their own way. The players were behind the wheel. To this day, this is one of the most famous scenes of the show.
And let’s not forget the troublemakers
Footballers are inherently associated with high-performance luxury cars. So if a footballer commits an offence on the road, it is often “worth it”.
We don’t even have to go beyond the border for scandals in this regard. Milan Baroš, who broke speed records in France in his Ferrari, or David Limberský, who crashed his Bentley while under the influence of alcohol.
At Euro 2020, the car made it to the field of play
The last example presents a situation that has given a whole new dimension to the link between car companies and football. At the opening of Euro 2020, a remote-controlled, scaled-down version of an electric car from Germany’s biggest car manufacturer delivered the ball to the field of play, where it was collected by the referee. But the somewhat comical scene achieved its goal – the footage went around the world.
