100. premier League goal in style! Son rounded off his Tottenham anniversary with a wonderful strike from outside the box
Tottenham are not having an ideal season and the same can be said for one of their main stars. Son Heung-Min hasn’t really shone this season and this is his worst season since his debut. But on Saturday, he fixed his taste and scored his 100th goal in the Premier League.
Tottenham are not having an ideal season and the same can be said for one of their main stars. Son Heung-Min hasn’t really shone this season and this is his worst season since his debut. But on Saturday, he fixed his taste and scored his 100th goal in the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur have long relied on two offensive aces in particular. Harry Kane and Son Heung -Min have formed a striking duo that terrifies opposing defences. Unfortunately, however, even these stars were unable to lead their club to a valuable trophy.
And while Kane has been scoring goals like a treadmill this season, which among other things has seen him break Wayne Rooney’s national team record by becoming England’s all-time top scorer, Son has been languishing.
He has only had a worse season than the current one since his arrival in England on his debut season, scoring 4 league goals and 8 goals across all competitions. In the current one, he has scored 7 league goals and has 11 in total.
He added his latest strike on Saturday afternoon in the net of a rampant Brighton, who are looking to challenge Spurs for a place in Europe and ideally claim a Champions League place, although that move seems less likely.
Son scored in the 10th minute of the game when he guided the ball into the middle in front of the opposition’s sixteen-yard box and parried a shot to the back post. It is his 100th goal in the Premier League. A stylish finish!
Son has been at Tottenham since the summer of 2015, when he was brought in from German side Leverkusen for €30 million. That seems like a ridiculous amount of money given how well he’s done today. He has now become the first ever Asian to reach the 100-goal mark in the Premier League.
Still only 30 years old, the South Korean star has played 364 competitive games for Spurs with a record of 142 goals scored and 78 assists.
