Alexander Zverev isn’t just in the spotlight because of tennis. A lot of attention has been drawn to the issues surrounding his ex-girlfriend and the court case against him. Now he has peace of mind in this regard. It won’t be for free, though.

Zverev on court

Branda Patea is the German tennis player’s ex-girlfriend. She accused him of assault, the nearly two-meter tennis player should have pushed her against the wall and strangled her.

The trial plans clashed with the schedules of both the French Open and Wimbledon. Which was an added inconvenience for Zverev.

Thanks to online meeting options, Zverev didn’t have to bounce from the courthouse to the center courts of the top events. At least some good news for the former world number two.

Even better news for the Hamburg native is the fact that the trial is over for him. After indicating that the trial was going in a good direction for him, confirmation of that fact came in the form of an out-of-court settlement agreement.

How much will Zverev pay?

It will cost the German tennis player 200,000 euros. He will pay most of it to the state and a smaller amount will go to charity. Patea said from the beginning that she was not interested in the money, which she basically proved.

So only he and Patea know whether Zverev is guilty or not. The 27-year-old player is free to concentrate on tennis.

On Friday, he moved on to the Roland Garros final. He beat Nora Ruud 3-1 in sets. His opponent’s health problems were evident and Zverev’s path to his last match in Paris was made easier.

In addition to the chance to win the coveted Grand Slam, he will earn more than enough for the costs of the out-of-court settlement at the second major of the season. The French Open finalist will collect over a million euros.

The grand final

His opponent in the final will be Carlos Alcaraz, who managed a highly anticipated duel with Sinner. Alcaraz eventually beat his opponent after a great five-set battle. He is looking for his first triumph on the Paris clay.

Zverev opened his Roland Garros tennis career this year with a match against the retiring legend Nadal. He will end the Grand Slam symbolically with the rising Spanish star Alcaraz. Sunday’s mission is likely to be a lot tougher for him.
