Slowly but surely, tennis action is starting to focus on the USA. Before the Masters tournaments in March, there is tennis action in Dallas. Why is the issue of sister tennis players coming up and who comes out of it best? And what role does American Frances Tiafoe play in this?
Tiafoe in the spotlight
Whether she wants it or not, American Frances Tiafoe is the main character in this story. He may no longer be in the top ten of the ATP rankings, but he is the number one seeded player at the Dallas tennis event.
And he needs to confirm that position. His recent performances are not exactly a picture of success. After all, he has won only two matches since the beginning of the season and retired from the Australian Open after just two rounds when he was beaten 3:0 in sets by Tomas Machac.
He experienced disappointment in a matter not so much related to tennis courts. We are talking about a poll by the Texas Tennis Association in which tennis players answered a question about which of their competitors they would allow to date their own sister with a calm heart.
Disappointing for the number one seed
Let’s start with the winner. Most players would approve of their sister dating another American. That’s Christopher Eubanks. The 6’2″ guy earned praise as a solid man who would take care of the lady in question.
At the other end of the imaginary ladder of ideal partners was tournament number one Tiafoe. His debacle is all the more cruel because he did not score a single point among his opponents.
“Wait, no one picked me?” tiafoe wondered after learning of his disappointing result. We’ll see if he’s more successful on the tennis courts.
Tiafoe at the tournament
After a free draw in the first round, the Maryland native played a promising compatriot Michelsen. He has confirmed his position as the number one player in Texas so far. He defeated his compatriot in a match full of lost serves without losing a set.
But one thing is clear, he will not meet the winner of the “sister” poll Eubanks at the tournament. This competitor ended his tennis journey in Dallas in the second round at the racket of Australian Duckworth.
