The duel between Karabakh and Viktoria Plzeň brought, especially in the first half, really interesting football, which must have entertained the unbiased spectator. Both teams were very active, which resulted in a number of chances created.
In the second act, however, Karabakh pressed the team from the west of Bohemia and had more of the game, but the guests were supported by the phenomenal performance of goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk.
However, the fans in the stadium or on the TV screens did not see the goal and except for a few moments when Staněk saved his team from scoring a goal, Plzeň’s defence did not allow its opponent to strike a goal.
Public reaction
After the match, Viktoria Plzeň posted a post on their Facebook profile announcing the goalless draw, which attracted a large number of comments. Plzen fans mostly praised their team, especially for a great first half, commitment and praised the performance of goalkeeper Stanek.
However, Karabakh fans saw it a bit differently and made it clear in the comments below the post.
For example, fan Anar Safar wrote the following
But he was answered by Richard Roith, who wrote: ” Yes, of course. Your boys played a perfect game, that’s why the result is 0:0. Thank goodness this kind of arrogant play was not rewarded. Kadji and Wadji were arrogant, Wadji even refused to shake hands after the game. Very sporting.”
Marco Cose Castillanos added afterwards that it was a missed opportunity on Karabakh’s part, describing Plzen as an unpleasant team. However, he is confident that his side will be favourites to advance in the rematch.
However, there were also fans who described the match as attractive and wished the Westerners luck in the rematch, in short, may the better team win.
Sarkhan Aliakbar commented. I hope we will win in the Czech Republic. At least the players from the Czech Republic have increased their knowledge of geography.”
“I am really surprised by the performance of Pilsen. You want to play the Champions League with this tactic? It looks like you’re playing volleyball, not football. Just wait for the rematch, when your team started playing we had three chances right away,” wrote Abdul Muradoglu.
Other Karabakh fans then agreed that Plzeň played in an appalling manner, with one supporter of the Azerbaijani outfit writing that he would never watch Western European football again after Viktoria’s home game.
“Karabakh is light years away from you. Good luck in the Europa League, Viktoria,” Preda Aurelian concluded.
